The Cure were recording new album The Top at Eden Studios in Reading without Phil Thornalley. Because he was in Australia engineering Duran Duran's album Seven And The Ragged Tiger. While Porl Thompson joined The Cure.

At the same time, Robert Smith was recording with The Banshees too, their new album Hyaena.

Note: It wasn't Duran Duran's album...

The Cure live in Munich

The Cure played one-off live performance in Munich with Norman Fisher Jones on bass. This show was broadcasted on German TV.

Richard Skinner

On 22 February 1984, The Cure recorded another Richard Skinner session at Maida Vale in London.

The Caterpillar

In March 1984, The Cure released a new single The Caterpillar in the United Kingdom.

Top of the Pops

In April 1984, The Cure did a playback performance of The Caterpillar on Top of the Pops, filmed at BBC Television Centre in London. BBC 1 aired this show on 12 April 1984.

On 22 May 1984, The Cure released a new album entitled The Top in the United Kingdom. This album featured 10 songs, which were recorded at Genetic Studios in London, England in 1984. All songs were produced by Phil Thornalley, Chris Parry and Robert Smith.

Album The Top entered the UK charts, where it would peak at number 10.

Concert

On 26 October 1984, The Cure released their first ever live album entitled Concert. It was recorded live in May 1984. There's also a double play cassette, which includes ten extra tracks on the B-side, under the title Curiosity - The Cure Anomalies 1977-1984.

Album Concert entered the UK charts, where it would peak at number 26.
