Mixing of Disintegration

Half of the month was spent mixing of the new album, but without Lol Tolhurst...

Lullaby

On 10 April 1989, The Cure released their new single entitled Lullaby, taken from the band's forthcoming LP Disintegration. It's backed with two additional new tracks, Babble and Out Of Mind. All formats are available, issued through Fiction Records.

The original UK 7inch pressing [FICS 29] features remix of Lullaby b/w Babble as a B-side. Two limited editions of the 7inch pressing were issued in the United Kingdom, both were limited to 10,000 copies. The first edition [FICSG 29] had a gatefold sleeve. Shortly after, the second one was a 7inch clear vinyl [FICSP 29] issued in a clear PVC picture sleeve. Both of these limited editions have the same tracks as the 7inch. The original UK 12inch pressing [FICSX 29] features extended remix of Lullaby b/w Babble and Out Of Mind as an extra track. Later, a limited edition of the 12inch pink vinyl [FICVX 29] was issued with the same three tracks. The original UK 3inch CD [FICCD 29] features both remixes of Lullaby with Babble and Out Of Mind.

Single Lullaby entered the UK charts, where it would peak at number 5.

Top of the Pops

In April 1989, The Cure did a playback performance of Lullaby on Top of the Pops, filmed at BBC Television Centre in London. BBC 1 aired this show on 20 April 1989.

Disintegration

On 2 May 1989, The Cure released their new album entitled Disintegration. This 10-track album was recorded with producer David M. Allen. The cassette and CD versions will additionally contain another two tracks.

Songs Last Dance and Homesick were available only on the CD or cassette release.

Album Disintegration entered the UK charts, where it would peak at number 3.

Lovesong

On 28 August 1989, The Cure released a new single Lovesong, taken from their album Disintegration. It's backed with two additional new tracks, 2 Late and Fear Of Ghosts. All formats are available, issued through Fiction Records.

The original UK 7inch pressing [FICS 30] features remix of Lovesong b/w 2 Late as a B-side. Later, a limited edition of the 7inch Lovebox [FICSG 30] was released. This limited edition of 10,000 copies included a linen print of the original artwork. The cassingle of Lovesong [FICCS 30] has the same two tracks as the 7inch. The original UK 12inch pressing [FICSX 30] features extended remix of Lovesong b/w 2 Late and Fear Of Ghosts as an extra track. The original UK CD [FICCD 30] features both remixes of Lovesong with 2 Late and Fear Of Ghosts.

Single Lovesong entered the UK charts, where it would peak at number 18.

Lovebox

In September 1989, The Cure released a limited edition of Lovesong, which included a linen print of the artwork.

MTV Video Music Awards

On 6 September 1989, The Cure performed live Just Like Heaven at MTV Video Music Awards ceremony, filmed at Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. It was also their first US television performance.
